Description: Book #1 in a trilogy from fantasy author Wayne Thomas Batson explores the concept of dreams and their effects on us.
People
are fascinated by dreams, and the Bible has a great deal to say about
them. From Jacob's dream of the heavenly stairway in Genesis 28 to
angels visiting Joseph during dreams in Matthew 1 to the Apostle John's
"waking dream" from which he obtained the book of Revelation--dreams
have been powerful ingredients of God's plan as revealed through
Scripture.
Fourteen-year-old Archer Keaton discovers he has the
ability to enter and explore his dreams. He is a "dreamtreader," one of
three selected from each generation. Their mission: to protect the
waking world from the Nightmare Lord, who wreaks chaos in the Dream
World. But as Archer's dreams become more dangerous and threatening, so
too does his waking life.
Rigby Thames, the new kid from England,
builds a suspicious rock star-like following at Dresden High School a
little too quickly. Even Archer's best friend and confidant, Kara
Windchil, seems taken in by the cool guy with the wild blond hair, which
definitely rubs Archer the wrong way. Archer must face two foes in two
worlds, but he cannot succeed alone. Archer sets off to find other
dreamtreaders in a desperate attempt to defeat the enemy terrorizing his
friends and family.
My Thoughts: Dreamtreaders is perfect for preteens. It contains a fascinating story world, full of action and imagination. Archer's adventures would have filled all of my daydreams if I had read this when I was younger.
For my own preference, I wish that some of the back story had been sprinkled out a bit more. Yet, as Juvenile fiction, I believe it well meets the needs of its main audience.
In conjunction with the CSFF Blog Tour, I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.

The Escape of Princess Madaline- Tour
Festival began. Lively merchants, hardworking farmers, and musicians eagerly awaited this event of harvest and joy. This year’s festival was even more important, as they celebrated Princess Madeline’s betrothal to her knight champion, Daniel.
Celebration quickly turns to disaster as Prince Paulsen returns with curious demands, either Princess Madeline will be his, or no ones. Rejection turns to obsession and battle is declared.
In a tense struggle to decide her future, Princess Madeline must choose where to put her trust… in the king’s tried and true plan, the wizard’s cryptic messages and maps, or her own sense of bravery. Follow Princess Madeline on this adventure as she battles evil in an attempt to create a future of love and magic.
My Thoughts: A nice, short read about making your own choices. There was little description or climax but was sweet and new.
Kirstin Pulioff is a storyteller at heart. Born and raised in Southern California, she moved to the Pacific Northwest to follow her dreams and graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Forest Management. Happily married and a mother of two, she lives in North Plains, Oregon, and enjoys being a stay at home mom. When she’s not writing, she is busy with her kids, church and the family business.
Madeline's story begins...

Search and Rescue- Colleen Coble
My Rating: 5 Stars
Description: In "Rock Harbor Search and Rescue," a middle grade fiction novel based on Colleen Coble's bestselling Rock Harbor series for adults, kids will enjoy the mixture of pets, adventure, suspense, and a mystery.
Emily O'Reilly is obsessed with all things Search and Rescue. She volunteers with the team and goes on rescue missions with her stepmom. She is even selling homemade jewelry to save up for her own Search and Rescue puppy. But when an expensive necklace is stolen from a renowned jewelry artist at Rock Harbor's fall festival and Emily is accused of the crime, it looks like she'll never get her puppy and be able to join the Rock Harbor Search and Rescue team.
Emily isn't willing to give up on her Search and Rescue dreams that easily, and she sets out to find the real culprit and to restore her reputation. With a few suspects in mind, Emily is determined to uncover the truth, but she isn't prepared for the secrets she and the Search and Rescue dogs sniff out in the process. This exciting mystery is filled with twists and turns that will keep readers on the edge of their seats and have them pining after a Search and Rescue puppy of their own!
My Thoughts: This was an awesome children's book. I found myself completely engrossed in this story (one a few grade levels below anything I normally read). The setting was so easy picture: the water, the wind, the spooky nights. It had school rivalries and crushes, things my own fourteen year old sister is dealing with right now.
Emily is a good example for girls her age. She is mature and (mostly) level headed. All of her responsibilities, she takes seriously. Even with that, she still has issues and lessons she needs to learn. I loved this book, and will wait happily for the second.
