Writing Tips- Write With Heart... and Music

In a great book, the writer bleeds with its characters. The writer feels their characters joys, triumphs, and falls.

When I write, I like to listen to music that inspires me. The music blocks out distractions and sends me into the worlds of my characters. So what inspires you? Is it an awesome playlist, a particular room? As you think about that, and maybe come up with one of your own, here is one of my favorite songs to listen to while I'm writing. It just captures why I love to read and write.

And here is another that has become the anthem of my heroines.

  1. Oh, I love listening to music for my inspiration too! I have whole playlists called, 'Soundtrack to Story' full of various different music that inspires me. And guess what? 'This Is Home' just happens to be the end credit song to my current work-in-progress 'Moonscript'.

Then of course there's the playlist that might not go for scene of my actual story, but which inspires it anyway. Some of these are the lyrical songs from 'Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron' and 'Prince of Egypt.' Another one I've recently loved for a particular heroine is 'Touch the Sky' from 'Brave'. Ah, music is wonderful.

    1. I have a few playlists for different times in a story: adventure, sadness, ect.. I like to have the music match the mood I am writing in. I should add the songs from movies to the lists. I really love some of them. Thanks for mentioning that!
